drive plate differences

can someone help out??? is a 396 to turbo 400 drive plate different to 396 to powerglide or turbo 350, i think they might have different numberof teeth, as my driveplate has been damaged and just trying to figure out why. according to ebay, yeh i know lol, they are a different listing and have different number of teeth. any help much appreciated as i want to sort out issue asap.

There are only two types of flexplates in early Chevs. 153 teeth or 168 teeth. All big blocks came with the larger one but you can use the smaller one since converter pattern is same for all transmissions. One catch though, if you use the smaller one you will have to change starter motor to suit because of the offset difference.

thanks Chris, worked it all out today, fitted a b&m flexplate, checked the starter shimming and all was sweet. fitted a deeper pan and flexible dip-stick tube while we were at it.
ended uphaving battery issues late in the day so will fire it with new battery tomorrow.
