Hi all,
I have search'd around for info and such on my Ponti brake system and haven't found alot so I decided to document a bit of what im doing on here so it may help others.
So to start off I have taken off my Master Cylinder and Brake Booster...
I took them to a local brake repairer to see what he would say is best way to go about things.
He stated that repairing tha old one would be 100% better than purchasing a new one...
(estimates)
$220 to re-selve master cylinder
$350 to do repairs to booster (seems fluid has enter'd it)
**********
$200 Metal Finish (chrome plating)
Now....
I can purchase a metal finished (chromed) master cylinder - brake booster combo from tha net for round $200-$300
But...
In buying a new one I may have tha headache of bolt holes not lining up, wrong bore size and tha geneal worry of it not working as well as and original one built for tha car.
So at present I am debating these two options...
Pay round 3 times as much for peace of mind or take tha cheap gamble.
Brakes are pretty dam important hahaha so im leaning towards paying tha repairs rather than buying new... still thinking.

It wouldnt be too hard to find out what bore size you have? It would be fairly common GM style?
-
Yes that would normally be right, but this car has had so many changes I dont trust standardness so to speak too much haha...
As it turns out it is standard 1 inch which I just measured :)

Update:
Have been searching round for a master cylinder/brake booster combo that doesnt cost tha earth to ship.
1st one from jegs was going to cost about $520 to ship here to Aus.
Now I have found tha same unit here: https://www.getdiscbrakes.com/RSeCommerce/SearchResultGen.aspx?SearchString=J85315171
Have been advised that tha shipping will be round $90-$120
At present im just trying to resolve an issue with them that my account created there is not showing my proper mailing address and keeps reverting back to say I live in Alabama.

It sounds to me like your brake guy is trying to rip you off. Also, from the sound of it, you have Holden brakes on your car, so buy locally and replace with Holden parts and save yourself a pile of $$$.
If you need further advice, I'd suggest you contact Chris Sinclair of SMS performance. He posts on here as SMS777. He's a club member and knows his stuff with all aspects of American cars.
If you go back to the main forum page, near the bottom is a thread for Chris's Tech Tips. You could list the problem you're having there and he'll post back up promptly.

The brake booster is one I was looking at earlier...
Can ya tell me why tha mounting bracket is on an angle like that?
To me it seems it will put tha whole unit on an angle
-
This one here seems to look like it will match mine better,
Straight to tha wirewall without bracket...
Thoughts?
