For the first time ever, a national Pontiac event is being held in Queensland! We welcome all Pontiac owners and enthusiasts to join us in the town of Warwick, 160 kilometres south west of Brisbane, for the 2011 Pontiac Nationals.
This will be the largest ever assembly of Pontiacs in the state of Queensland. The Nationals features a full programme of events including a street parade, car show, local cruising, sprint racing and two fully-catered night functions. You’ll meet fellow Pontiac enthusiasts from all over Australia, and see many cars you have never seen before. It’s an experience like none other, where Pontiacs take over a town on the Easter long weekend.
Warwick is a town of 12,500 residents located in the southern part of Queensland. It is the meeting point of major highways from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Warwick has become a popular choice for car club events, partly because of the Morgan Park motorsports complex located just outside town. The facilities in town enable events such as this to be accommodated.

I'd love to go, but I've just got other stuff to spend $$$ on atm.
And look, Uncle Dave is the featured artist on Saturday night!!
**Disclaimer** I'm not actually related to David Barry - or at least I don't think I am.
-
I booked in to go. Figured it would be a good long drive for the Transam. Entered into the Sprints. First time ever. Thought it would be a bit of fun.
It does make for an expensive trip though Bonnevista. I guess you only live once. I figured why not spend time enjoying myself.

It is a lot of fun having a thrash & all the Pontiac Nationals I have been to over the years are a real good time.
Would love to be going myself but cant do this time around :(
-
Hope to see you at the next one. Your firebird looks great.

If you haven't been before, you should certainly go.
I've been to a whole bunch of them before, including the first one back in the '80's.
My youngest son is going on 3 overseas trips this year playing basketball. One trip is to the world U/19 Championships in Latvia and one other is to the US to attend an American university on an athletic scholarship. He's already been to China in January on a tour as well. It's an expensive year.
BTW, I also went to the first All American Day in 1882 at the St. Ives Shopping Village.
-
Your son sounds like he is doing great Bonnevista. I'm sure I'll have a good time. How can I not with the sound of a V8 coming out of a muscle car!

Hey Chris, back in 1882 was it all american horse & carts :rol:
Thanks for that 1977 Trans Am, should be good for the next one, no overseas trips planned for around that time :)
-
Yeah, in 1982 my '68 Firebird wasn't even an old car - well, it sort of was, but not old like now.
-
You hold your age well.

:lol: Didn't pick up on the typo, duh! Anyway, it's so long ago, it may as well have been 1882. If I'd waited until 1885, I could have gone along to see the Delorean with the Flux capacitor and the 1955 whitewalls.
I remember in - 1982 - when I attended the first All Am day, a guy about 50 came up to me and asked what car I had there. I said, "this '68 Firebird." His reply, "well, it's not a Mustang is it." I shared my 'thoughts' with him after that.
That comment set me on a 'certain course' regarding Fords in general and Mustangs (and their owners) in particular. :rub:

Like to support those guys up North.. they have been though a lot and still dedicated and making it happen...
1983transam.. when on Thursday are you leaving and how long do you allow for the drive...??
Will be in Taiwan for 3 days .. 4 days before it but I'm thinking now of driving the G8 Ute thing up .. rather then flying.. but only if I can do it in a day or over night driving.. But a lower spine area doesn't like long drives any more.. so.. flying in probably.. as well its double demerits weekend with the new Point to Point camera's working in the mid west too.
The joys of being self employed...!!
-
Alan I'm heading up on Thursday the 21st. It would be great to drive up with someone. Ozpont let us know if you're driving up mate. The more the merrier. The plan is to leave early morning like 8am at the latest from Penrith.
Bonnevista I don't understand some people. That bloke with the comment about mustangs........you buy whatever car suits you. All that matters if it makes you happy. I feel 10 years younger now I've got the Transam.
-
I will be heading up with my mate Stanley with his 63 Ponti. I will be in my '60.
Not too sure yet when we will be leaving or if we are doing the trip in one day or two to get to Warwick.
It's going to be fun. Alot of cars that you don't see very often.
-
It would be good to drive up together if we're heading up on the same day. i'm coming back from hawaii on the avo of the 20th (wed) so can't leave till thursday morning.
-
Are you a memeber of the Ponti Car club?
It would also be an idea to go to one of their meetings and see when everyone else is planning to go up.
I'm sure there will be quite a few convoys heading up.
Not sure when their meetings are on though.
-
Not a member. I paid my entry fee for the nationals a while ago last year.
They don't go on many social events like this club.
I will be meeting people for the first time from this club this month when I go to Harry's at Liverpool.
Figured I'd meet up and see how I like the club atmospheres.
My other hobby is clay target shooting which costs me a lot every month so I can't spend too much on memberships with different clubs. Preferrably just want to join one.
-
Hey Guys, was thinking going early on the Thursday morning like 4 or 5 am, but am flexible to cruise with other's, let us know whats going on:hangloose:
-
I'll see you up there.
-
Make sure you take lots of pic's guys. (PLEAS)
-
Will do Joe.

No problem Jo, By the way a few of us are meeting at Thornleigh Mc'Donalds at 5am on the Thursday, if you would like to tagg along all the merrier, we will be travelling straight through.:thanks:
-
hi guys..just getting some more feedback...4 or 5 am for departure from Thornleigh Mc'Donalds...and i heard Greg Smith may want to join us..please let us know who wants to cruise with us:fantastic:
-
I'm still deciding on what we are doing yet.
But I will let you know when I am a definite.
That was me beeping the horn at you Alan when you were on North Rocks Rd, I was in my truck working on Sat night heading down Pennant Hills Rd.
-
We'd need 5 am please. We don't get home from Hawaii until 9pm the night before. I'll be buggered otherwise. I'll need to get up at like 2am to get the family ready and head there.
-
haha greg was wondering who that was..lol...ok greg let us know either way.. and no problem 5 am is cool with us:hangloose:
-
Hi.. what route are you guys taking to end up at Warwick...?? & whats your estimated driving time...??
-
I figured we were going on the New England Highway. It takes 9 hours 29 minutes from Thornleigh. Otherwise National Highway 15 and new England Combined takes 9 hours 55 minutes. I don't think that google maps is taking into account classic cars may need a couple of extra fuel stops.
-
yeah F3 then new england..drive time is about right..cant wait:yeah:
-
..umm..subject to time... looks like a drive is in order.. Will leave with the Easter traffic Thursday night after hrs..stop at The Entrance overnight and hit the road early Friday along with the double demerits ... better set up the number plate flipper for the speed camera's... should be in Warwick sometime Friday night. Wish sometimes OFTEN .. I had a day job so time off was an option.
