Dates for Beach Hop 2009
We are pleased to announce that Beach Hop 2009 will be March 26-29th. Yes – that is 1 month earlier! As the new dates are in daylight saving time, the festival will become more day focused. We are also limiting the number of vehicle entrants.

YOU CAN READ ABOUT THE REASONS FOR THE CHANGE AND OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE www.beachhop.co.nz

Beach Hop 208 Pictorial
Our congratulations to the team at New Zealand Hot Rod Magazine for the superb quality of the Beach Hop 08 Pictorial – it is stunning! The photography and selection make this a MUST HAVE. They are on sale at over 1000 outlets around New Zealand including selected Whitcoulls, BP & Shell outlets. Or you can order directly from http://www.nzhotrodmag.co.nz/product.php?id=194 or Liz will even tell you the outlets in your area if you email her liz@nzhotrodmag.co.nz

Beach Hop 2008 Movie
We gave a test screening of the 2008 movie last Friday night to some special guests, and it received a fantastic response. We’ve asked Peter and the team to make a couple of minor adjustments and then it’ll go away for a rating. Once we get it back we’ll send them out to Ultimate Pass entrants and those that have pre-ordered them. If you’d like to order your copy now, then please email totalimage@xtra.co.nz .
The movie sees the return of Buddy Baxter and Mary Lou as they check out the fun at the festival. Mary Lou has a friend called Sally who Buddy falls in love with – but she isn’t interested until he ditches his Ford Anglia. Of course this story is based around the action and characters at the Beach Hop with highlights from Pauanui, Cruise the Loop, Onemana, Night Cruising, Grand Parade, Surf Comp, Nostalgia Fair and bands. Speaking of bands, the Retro Rockets “Catalina” is pure rock video. There are 6 “Meguiars Feature Cars” included. The movie is 8 minutes longer than last year at just on 1 hour and also includes a 30 minute bonus section with video and photo gallery courtesy of www.thehop.co.nz

2009 Festival Sponsors
We spent some time last week catching up with our Auckland based sponsors. The good news is they are all very excited about the new festival format and indicated they are back on board next year. So watch this space as we are hoping to announce some very exciting news….

Have fun!

Hello everyone.
A few of us are going to Beachhop in New Zealand next March 26th -29th  & were thinking we should try & make it a club tour.  Joe Johnson went this year & said it was fantastic, the more members we get the cheaper the airfares I can organize for us, & also accomadiation.  To check out the event log onto their website.  This is the biggest Muscle car show outside of the USA & this year they are giving away 3 Mustangs. So if you are interested in coming along please let me know ASAP.
  See Ya Garry ;11

Is this a boys only adventure :cool:or are we taking baggage.
I am interested but good old fashioned work seems to get in the way, won't know if i can get the time off this far away.
If i take the missus i would have to do a bit of site seeing aswell, take her to a boiling mud pit.

This is the latest up date that I recieved today.
On Monday we sold out of Ultimate Passes for Beach Hop 09 - the response has totally blown us away. We apologise to those who have missed out, however we can only fit a certain number of cars into the area.

As you may be aware, we are also limiting the number of Standard Pass entries as well. These entries can do the all activities for the full festival. WE ARE 50% SOLD OUT OF STANDARD PASSES AS WELL! So if you wish to participate fully then we suggest you enter straight away - they will all be gone soon.

For the first time we are offering Day Passes for Saturday only. These entrants can come to the Beach Hop for the day and park at one of the many car shows we have around the town. They are eligible for prizes and receive a BH09 window decal, Festival Programme and Swing Tag for the bus service that will take people from car show to car show.

Standard and Day Pass entries can be made online at http://www.beachhop.co.nz/online_entry-3.htm or entry forms
can be printed off at http://www.beachhop.co.nz/standard_entry.htm

We are still experiencing some email problems with entry confirmation. Please be patient with us....

Give Away Cars
We can now reveal the THREE Mustangs that will find new homes at Beach Hop 09. Check out our website http://www.beachhop.co.nz/2009_car.htm
for the "as brought" photos. The cars are currently sitting at Famous Pacific Shipping's LA agent's fantastic indoor storage shed waiting to be loaded for shipping to NZ. We will have a photo of all 3 together for the very first time next week as they are being loaded into containers.

Overseas Visitors
We are fielding a lot of enquires from overseas and it looks like there will be plenty of international visitors at the Festival. There are even rumours about a couple of cars from Australia heading our way... Once again we will have FREE Beach Hop 09 "Aussie" swing tags available at Beach Hop Central for our guests. We will also look at some for other countries as well so make sure you pop into our Shop and say Hi to our crew!

Have fun!

Hi,

I found a link the the Beach Hop on your forum so have joined up to help you guys get to New Zealand next year. We really welcome guests from Australia, and if there is anything I can do to help then please let me know.

Incidentally, we shipped 2 cars to the Wintersun Festival in Coolangatta in 2006 - it cost us NZD$5000 return for both cars - not too bad! Our major sponsor is Famous Pacific Shipping and I'm sure they would cut you a great deal if you wanted to bring cars over. And if you did, then you would be our very special guests... We had a Sled from Brisbane here this year...

And yes, we have just purchased THREE classic Mustangs which will find new homes during the festival next March. I'm actually still in the USA finishing up the shipping.. been here since Aug 1st and head back to NZ next week..

Keep in touch!

Hi Noddy.
It will be our pleasure to attend your great event we will look into maybe shipping cars over? If you can put us onto some motels in the area that we can book into as a group that would really help.  Mate thanks for coming onto our forum & web site it will be a pleasure to meet with you if you have the time I know what it is like running an event this size I will bring you a club shirt & hat.

Hi Gary,

No problem at all. As I said, we'll do everything we can to help you. My advice on accommodation - you won't find a motel for 30km away. The best thing to do is rent a couple of holiday homes for 4-5 nights. These usually come fully furnished and can sleep anywhere from 6 - 12 each. Some prices are sky rocketing and we are trying to combat that - but you should be able to pick one up for around NZ$250-$300 per night. Most will be within 20 min walk into town. You usually just have to leave it as clean as you found the house... I can put you in touch with an agent if you want to go this route once you have an idea on numbers etc.

Another option is Campervans. I can possibly arrange a place for you to park up for a minimal fee. It is just on the outskirts of town in the country. Perhps too far to walk into town - but if you are smart you will be fine... Maui/Britz do a pertty good rate on campervans for the week....

Or perhaps a rental house and a couple of campervans parked on the property? Now that may be a smart idea....

Please let me know what you think will suit you best...

Cheers,

Noddy

Post by: MuscleVette on October 20, 2008, 07:09:45 PM
Hi guys this is the latest up date from Beachhop NZ.
Entry Update
As of today 2/3 of Standard Passes for Beach Hop 2009 are sold! We have the same number of cars entered at this point as what we did on Jan 30 2008 for BH08 – that is how far ahead we are…. If you are planning to participate in the full festival, then you’ll need to be very quick as we are going to cap the number of entries shortly. We also have even more incentives to enter the Festival, but more on that in our next newsletter... In the meantime you can enter online or download an entry form from our website www.beachhop.co.nz

Email Problem
We apologise for the delay some people recently experienced in receiving their entry confirmation email. We were processing these from the USA and had some real issues with email at times. But we are back in New Zealand now and the system is working well. If you have entered the Festival, but not heard back from us, then please email us info@beachhop.co.nz and we’ll check our records and confirm with you ASAP.

Project Cars Update
Last week we delivered the 3rd and final Mustang to Famous Pacific Shipping’s agent in Los Angeles, so the cars are in good hands now. This was the first time all 3 cars were parked together, and we managed to snap a couple of photos which are on our website – http://www.beachhop.co.nz/2009_car.htm so make sure you take a peek at the making of the biggest classic car give away in New Zealand’s history. It will be great to compare the cars once we’ve given them a makeover using our sponsor’s excellent products! The next time we’ll see them is in a few weeks at Famous Pacific Shipping’s top class facility near Auckland International Airport.

Have fun!
See Ya Garry ;11

Entry Update
Entries are still flooding in and as of today we only have space for about 195 cars left for the full festival. We expect these to be snapped up fairly quickly, so if you have plans to be part of the full festival then we suggest you enter ASAP. If being in the draw to win not 1, but 2 classic Mustangs isn’t enough, we’re also offering Standard Pass entrants the opportunity to purchase the Beach Hop 09 DVD for 50% less than the normal price! We’ll be inserting a special coupon inside your entry packs when we post them out next March for you to pre-order your discounted copy. You can enter online right now by visting our website www.beachhop.co.nz

We’ve also heard all sorts of crazy rumours that Beach Hop 9 has been cancelled – AS IF! You can be assured that the Crew have been hard at work to make sure this the best festival yet and it is all systems go.

Biggest Ever Classic Car Giveaway Update
We’ve had an update from Famous Pacific Shipping advising the 3 Mustangs are safely packed inside their container, and currently full steam across the Pacific Ocean. The interest in this ground breaking promotion is attracting attention from all over the globe, and really putting New Zealand and the Beach Hop on the international map. We really can’t wait to pick up the cars from Famous Pacific Shipping and then work to get them legal for New Zealand roads. After that, we’ll be pulling them all apart for a make over to turn them into an eye popping touring trio. We’ve recently had some great offers of services (wheel alignments, tyres etc), so if your business would like to come on board then please email info@beachhop.co.nz or give us a call on 021 260 8946 – we’d love to hear from you!

Beach Hop 09 Festival Programme Advertisers
We know this sounds crazy, however we are now working on putting the Festival Programme together for Beach Hop 09! If you are interested in advertising your business in the Programme, then please contact Sharyn Morris at the Costal News Phone 07 865 8078, 021 2264 956, or email coastal.news@bopp.co.nz, attention Sharyn. We publish over 10,000 copies of the magazine and of course the chance to win a Classic Mustang will be contained inside, so it is an even better to reason to advertise with us.

Retro Rockets News
Brien McVernon, lead singer of popular Australian band the “Retro Rockets”, has just returned from an incredible adventure to Peru where he was a member of the Love Hope Strength “Peru Rocks” event to raise funds for cancer suffers in Peru. Brien, along with other well known musicians, trekked the Inca Trails with cancer survivors and along the way the musicians performed together. Brien did an impromptu acoustic performance of Beach Hop 09 song “Catalina” high up in the mountains – check it out here http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=08OkgX3-KRY  and the original from the Beach Hop 09 DVD here http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DCJGCysknQs
A big thank you to the many Kiwis who dug deep into their pockets at Beach Hop 09 to help send Brien to Peru… Now, what song will the Rockets compose for Beach Hop 09? Something about Mustangs maybe??? No pressure guys!

Beach Hop Stamps
For the past 3 years New Zealand Mail has very kindly sponsored the production of special edition stamps featuring the Beach Hop. We are just finalising the artwork for the BH2008 stamps and expect the new edition to be released in a few weeks. We’ll post a sample of the artwork on the website www.beachhop.co.nz  very soon so that you can order yours directly from us. The 50c stamps will come in booklets of 10 stamps and feature some of the Century Batteries Top 5 cars and bikes from BH08, some dancers, a classic motorbike and a HOT entrant from the Rita Sue Retro Beauty Show.

What Now
Popular kids TV Show “What Now” (TV2) will be broadcasting live from Whangamata on Sunday 9th of November for 2 hours from 8am and they’ve asked us to organise a Beach Hop theme. We have arranged for some Hot Rods & Classic Cars to be parked by the beach near the Surf Club, plus we’re inviting Rock’n’Roll dancers and Elvis impersonator Che Orton from Hamilton to perform. This is a great opportunity to get the Beach Hop into thousands of homes across New Zealand – so make sure you tune in!

HELP WANTED: Big Boys Toys
Beach Hop sponsor Kicker are heavily involved with Big Boys Toys on November 13-16, and are in need cars! They have an area to fill outside and are looking for 30-35 cars per day. If any clubs wish to participate in this display they are more than welcome. Free entry to the show for the driver and legal number of passengers. RSVP’s by November 6th please Contact Tony  tony@kicker.co.nz  or call 021 407103

Custom Rods Raffle Car
The Phobic Trust of New Zealand Inc in collaboration with Custom Rods is delighted to announce a unique fund raising initiative. The Phobic Trust of New Zealand Inc is a charitable organisation that specialises in the treatment of patients with severe Anxiety, Phobic, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and associated illnesses. Custom Rods is an Auckland based Hot Rod building company whose mission is to “recreate classic cars from the 30’s with the drivability and reliability of a new car.” Marcia Read, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Phobic Trust of New Zealand says the offer of a brand new custom built car as the major prize for a fund raising raffle is very exciting, almost overwhelming and an amazing show of support for the Trust from the team at Custom Rods.                     THE LATEST FROM BEACHHOP.
Beach Hop 09 Entry Update
We have just over 100 car places available for the full 4 days of the Beach Hop 09 festival and are sure these will be all snapped up by Christmas. So please visit www.beachhop.co.nz to enter now and secure your place at New Zealand’s No1 Nostalgia Festival. And of course when you enter you automatically in the draw to win the Mustang that will be drawn from entrants only!

Biggest Ever Classic Car Give Away

Famous Pacific Shipping (FPS) called late last week to inform us the 3 Mustangs, sponsored by Makita, had arrived in New Zealand and invited us to be present when they were unloaded. As expected when experts such as FPS are involved, the cars arrived on schedule and in excellent condition. MAF were then called to inspect the cars in FPS’s bonded area and after a thorough examination they were all given a clean bill of heath. They also passed the LTNZ requirements for rust and/or accident repairs and a nice green sticker was affixed to the windscreens. This is the benefit of purchasing solid cars and cleaning them in the USA for shipping – leave the nasty things that threaten our borders in their home country! Not only that, it saves a lot of stress, time and money.

We are about to collect the cars from Famous Pacific Shipping and transport them to Whangamata where we will work to get them legal for New Zealand roads.

Additional Sponsors
Classic Cover
Mark Joblin from Classic Cover Insurance contacted us at Beach Hop Central as soon as he read about the Classic Car give away and offered to insure all 3 Mustangs for us. How cool is that?! Classic Cover staff are car people and they speak our language. Welcome back on board Mark!

Thames Auto Painters
Jenny & Les Audain from Thames Auto Painters have been painting Hot Rods and Classic Cars for over 30 years and have a reputation of doing fantastic paint jobs. They’ve offered to help our team turn these 3 cars into eye catching crusiers and we are looking forward to getting the cars to them so they can work their magic.

Hauraki Tyre and Battery
Robbie and Sheryl Manderson from Hauraki Tyre and Battery in Thames have also arranged for tyres to be supplied for the 3 Mustangs where needed so well be sure to keep you updated when this happens!

If you’d like to become involved in the biggest Classic Car Give Way ever then please drop us an email info@beachhop.co.nz We’re going to need a small amount of panel work done (accident – not rust) on 2 of the cars before painting. Any panel beaters out there – please drop us a line!

New Events At BH09

We’re always thinking of new ways to keep the festival fresh and have come up with a couple of beauties for next year…

60s Quiz Night

As a warm up to the festival we are holding a 60s Quiz night at the Whangamata Memorial Hall on Saturday 21 March for those that arrive early. It’ll be a fun night with teams of up to 8 people able to enter. There will be heaps of spot prizes so make sure you get dressed up in the “theme” to get bonus points. The subjects will be about the 60s and include Music, Movies, TV, History, Kiwiana, Sport and a special Beach Hop section. So you had better start studying now!

Junkyard Fashion Show
We all know Hot Rodders and Classic Car owners have been amongst the best recyclers on the planet for decades, so we are taking that one step further with a Junkyard Fashion Show at Onemana Beach on Friday 27th March. The rules are simple – build a costume out of car parts and walk down the runway in front of our guest judges. We also have a sculpture section and can think of some imaginative uses of fan belts, headlights and gear knobs! More details on our website soon.

Have fun!

MAJOR CHANGE ANNOUNCED
Due to unscheduled road works on the road to Pauanui we are relocating the “Cragar Kick Off Party” to Tairua on Thursday 26th March. We have been working closely with Opus International about road conditions but it seems they were unaware of these road works as well. However we have a fantastic spot on a reserve along the harbour at Tairua right next to the CBD. Tim and the Rockets will be playing on the rear deck of “the Landing Café” which faces the reserve plus there is a playground for the kids. We are sure the entire Tairua community will turn out in force for the festival. Departure time from Whangamata is still the same – 10am. Tairua will ROCK!

3 Wild Mustangs
Yep – the THREE cars are finished and road legal! The impact these 3 cars are having is sensational and we are more than happy with the end result. You can check them out on our website….http://www.beachhop.co.nz/2009carpage3.htm

Go Waihi Warm Up Party
The entire Waihi Community is getting into the spirit of the Warm Up Party and are set to put on a great show for us. There is also some great prizes up for grabs – the Mayor will be picking the “Best Hot Rod” and “Best Classic Car” trophy winners and there is also a prize for the “Best Dressed” male and female!

Streets Thunder Cruise
Another sponsor has joined our family – Sonic Race & Machine Ltd has sponsored the “Best Car” at Onemana on Friday 27th. Fantastic news!

LoveNZ Junkyard Fashion Show
We hope you have thrown together a costume using car parts as we have some SERIOUS cash for the winner! And the same goes with the car parts sculpture and pushbike section. Beautiful trophies plus a fist full of cash! Entry is free on the day at the Onemana Domain.

Whanga Bar Hop Idol
Heats each night from 7pm –Wed, Thurs and Friday at the Whanga Bar, just behind Flooring Xtra. The Whanga Bar are also doing Beach Hop Cocktails and we just happened to sample some last week…. FANTASTIC! There is $500 cash for the winner at the Whanga Bar Hop Idol finals on Saturday at the Kicker Reserve approx 3:45pm.

Jennian Homes 60s Surf Fest
Yep – it is all on! The Whangamata Board Riders have stepped up and Carlos is running the show. Entry is on the day at the Esplanade from 8am. Once again, there is $1000 of prizes thanks to Steve Trebilco from Jennian Homes.

PLEASE HAVE A SAFE TRIP!

Hi guys and girls.

Just before the boys went away Joe sent this through and asked if I could put it together and post it while they were gone.

Chickenman does have a problem saying any word related to Ford.  LOL!!  Read on.............

Hi everyone as you are probably aware we left on Wednesday for the big trip to NZ.
The trip was off to a bumpy start ( to say the least ) when one week out we received an email from the people at Bachcare that the accommodation we booked 5 months prior was double booked privately by the owner. So they had to come up with an alternative accommodation from this 2 story on the beach............

To this alternative accommodation round the corner

It was a bitter pill to swallow with one week to go and left us with no alternative but to cop it and move on with our Holiday.

The next email I received helped us get in the swing of things it was from Rob Scott vice president of AMCCNZ:

Hi Joe,
Rob Scott from NZ here.{ Yellow Shelby}
Beach  Hop is nearly upon us again. I'm aware that you guys are bringing a group over. That's so cool. We expect you all to be our guests at our club BBQ on the Friday night at Russell's Bach at Onemana. I understand that you guys are staying at a house near the beach. Perhaps some of our guys could help ferry your party to the BBQ in our cars. All you would need to bring would be your own booze.Of course you will have Darren's cell but mine is ---------------. Give one of us a call to get together. We all look forward to catching up with you guys.

I have expressed the hospitality of there club many times over the years and it is second to non Russell’s bach ( that’s kiwi for holiday home ) is on the main road 200 meters from the beach where on Friday the main cruise is open to all comers I guarantee we are in for a treat.

The AMCCNZ park their cars in the empty block opposite Russell’s bach

There is more, the three M#st*ngs  are all done and they look OK

If you want to check out the resto work that went in to these rides CLICK HERE (http://www.beachhop.co.nz/2009_car.htm)

Well that’s all for now but stay tuned to this thread because there is lots more to come.

Joe.

I have seen a lot of car shows & been on several all weekend car events, but I have never seen anything like this event. With over 1780 cars entered for judging along with 8 rock & roll bands playing through out the street not one bit of violence any where it is amazing there would have been well over 3000 American cars turn up for this weekend just an amazing weekend it is somethinbg that words will not explane you have to go & see it for your self will add some photos later.

Hi nice to meet you and glad to have you in NZ as our guest!

We are pretty happy with how the show went - but can always improve things. Next year, our 10th, will be even better!

Just a small correction - we had 20 bands perform.....

Have fun!

Beach Hop 09 On TV!
There will be a number of Television programmes featuring coverage of BH09 over the next few weeks…… PLEASE TUNE IN! TV is all about ratings and the more people that watch, then the greater the chance we will see even better TV coverage and secure more sponsorship.

This Sunday will see NZV8 Magazine’s first ever TV Show NZV8TV go to air. It’s just like the magazine, but on screen for even more action. On the show this week is coverage of Beach Hop 09. Full coverage will be spread over the next few episodes, so make sure you tune in to TV1 at 4.30 PM every Sunday.

Neighbours at War, TV2 Thursday 23rd April at 7:30pm features the ongoing battle between the owners of Settlers Motor Camp, the Council, and concerned users over noise issues at the Whangamata War Memorial Hall. As Beach Hop 09 was affected by the complaints made by the owners of the motor camp, there will be some footage from the Festival in the programme – you won’t want to miss this!

Next up will be the Red Shift which will screen a 30 minute Beach Hop feature on Prime TV, 5pm Saturday 25th April. We’ve seen the promo and Cal and crew have done a fantastic job.

Beach Hop 09 Magazine Coverage
NZV8 Magazine’s coverage is just about to hit the shelves too, head down to your local magazine shop on Monday to pick up your copy. As well as the Hop, the NZV8 guys have the full story of Stella, Margarita and Ginger, our three Mustangs in the same issue. There is a fantastic gallery of photos from the event here also http://www.v8.co.nz/news/3900/whangamata-beach-hop-2009-430-images-online

We are sure the next edition of NZ Petrolhead will have extensive coverage of the biggest Beach Hop ever. We’ll let you know the details ASAP!

Monday 27th will see the May issue of NZ Hot Rod Magazine on the bookshelves and as always, they will do a fantastic job of capturing the atmosphere of the event. Paul, Liz and team are also busy working on the Beach Hop 09 Pictorial Magazine which they expect to publish mid-May. If you would like to order a copy now so you don’t miss out then please click on the following link http://www.nzhotrodmag.co.nz/product.php?id=278
