For years and years, avid American car enthusiasts thought of a certain Holden as the Holy Grail. In hushed tones and with furtive looks, they let each other know that, yeah, the BMW E39 M5 is pretty dang sweet, but there's this Australian car... a four-door with a six-speed and a Corvette motor... and it's... dare we say it... better? However, it remained a piece of Automotive apocrypha not only because they couldn't have it, but because no one could remember the name (HSV GTS, of all the nonsensical, alphabet soup letter combos Holden could have selected).
We mention the legendary HSV GTS because us Australian Camaro fans might now be experiencing what muscle car-starved Yanks went through at the beginning of the decade -- withdrawal! Because not only are there are no right-hand drive Camaros, but the 2010 update to the original Mustang competitor is based almost totally on native Holden underpinnings. Doesn't that just suck! We build them and cant have one.
But fear not, or may be do so, Performax International has figured out how to move the steering wheel to the opposite side of the transmission tunnel and will sell those of us living in the Land Down Unda a right-hand drive Camaro SS for just $139,000 AUD. JUST????. That's $128,500 U.S. American dollars. Which is... psychotic, says us. Especially considering that in America, a Camaro SS costs $33,745. But despite what we think, half a dozen customers have already placed orders with Performax International for a Aussie-spec'd Camaro.
I want one but I'll be buggered if I'm going to spend that much money. ;N

That price situation has been the same with new Mustangs for a while, just add $100,000 to the original price - that'll just about do it.
-
now if this was a corvette this figure would be cheap entry.
But its not this one has the torago smile.
I will enjoy seeing them on our roads if only someone would
sign up for 500 then maybe they will make em rhd but the converter wouldnt be happy about that
I hear power house dick smith are giving a new camaro
away worth $150k OZ by simply filling out an entry form to win it
I'm sure going to fill one entry form out this end. ......cheers

They can jamb it... for that money.. or even the depreciation ALONE.. you could fly to LA for a week every 2nd month and hire one.. drive around for a couple of weeks and come home..do that till your sick of it... .. and have a holiday at the same time... and not financially any worse off.
.. $128,000.. NO WAY.. no way in the world... I know they have to back it up with all sorts of warranties and repair guidelines are stupid for the sellers.. as they primarily must act as the manufacturers .. and untill they do probably 10 at least.. whats to say they will not stuff it up quietly.. (any converter this is) but just pass on the problems.. like SO MANY did with 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation cars..
$128,000 NO.... A$85,000 YES..

Talk about depreciation, look at what early 4th gens are going for these days, considering what was asked for them as new cars on the road in Australia.

Its not like they are really hard to get for reasonable money in the US..
