We've never been so I just booked in for Friday and Saturday night.
The good news is that the Novotel (which has just been refurbished) haven't put their rates up (every other decent pub has almost doubled their prices!). That means a rate of $158 per night for a king bed, but they are charging $25 per night for secure parking due to us louts causing cars to be stolen, so they have a full lock up under ground car park, as well as security guards constantly patrolling the car park.
Anyone up for the trip?
-
We may head down as Ive heard this may be the last year at Canberra,Anyone confirm this..
-
I've been thinking about it. I went a couple of years ago. I know a bloke who works in radio, so I got a couple of tickets for free, then I booked a 4 star Motel over at Manuka through lastminute.com for about $80 per night.
It was a pretty cheap weekend, considering.
-
drove down in the sunday last year (which was also supposed to be the last year in canberra) ,was an easy drive and not a bad day
-
I will be going again for my 17th consecutive year.

The annual Street Machine Magazine Summernats (proudly supported by Rare Spares) is more than a car show; it’s a festival of the street machine lifestyle. The event attracts enthusiasts from Australia and overseas to see, feel and participate.
Exhibition Park offers the opportunity to cruise the kilometres of roadways, and stretch performance to the maximum, in the outrageous Burnout and Go-Whoa competitions on the world’s first and only purpose-built burnout facility. With grass driving events provide the stage to demonstrate those proudly held driving abilities. The Top 60 Show, Car Audio Sound Off, and Miss Summernats combine with entertainment and displays to bring Exhibition Park to life with a high spirited, automotive atmosphere.

Hi Summernats attendees,
The ACT Mustang club have kindly extended this invitation, please rsvp by u2u or post so I can give them numbers. We should take up saturday night, and go for a different meal on friday night unless you hoons want the full monty of wheelie watching and take up both nights.
The Canberra MOCA contingent have a gathering for dinner (on the sidewalk) at Cafe Pronto (pizza joint) in Lonsdale St, Bradden (we have been meeting there for a number of years) - for those who don't know Lonsdale St, it is the place to be on Friday & Saturday nights where a huge amount of cars parade up the street dropping wheelies etc. Now days it is a lot tamer due to high police presence which has stamped out the idiots. But, it is still the place to be (other than in Summernats itself). We park our Mustangs as close to the cafe as possible - generally out the front - you cannot miss us.
On the Sunday; The ACT Council of Car Clubs (MOCA Canberra is affiliated - for Club plate purposes) is invited by the Summernats to have a display of cars on the main oval. there is quite a variety of vehicles. I was once quite involved in the organisation of this but this year another member is the contact but, as I understand, there are about 10 - 12 Mustangs entered. So, if you see a group of Mustangs on the oval on Sunday then that will be the MOCA Canberra contingent. Pop in and say hello.
-
We would be keen for the saturday night dinner..
Braddon has always been fun.:rol:
Relive our earlier years at the nats being the ones pulled over.:ban:

Hey Club Super Hero
Spoke to Bateman, said he is a little busy over the Nat's weekend dealing with something or other but will send Robin to meet you at the secret meeting place in Manuka for your shipment of vitamins.
Wants to know same deal?
Said to be careful with this stuff as the Hulk went a little overboard and now see how he looks!
-
Thanks Bee for arranging that - looking forward to it.
Question, other then myself who else is driving down their pride and joy and if so are you taking your car into Nat's?
Cheers

Yeah, same deal. I told the Hulk to go easy on the gamma radiation, but he won't listen. His philosophy is, more is better.

I'm taking my mustang, but not into nats. Luke and Liz (and the boss, Zac) are taking the daily driver due to portable playland requirements! Maureen and Mal bringing the mustang, not sure about Matt and Leanne!

The cost is $25.00 per person - please do not pay at the counter but give your money to me and I will cross your name off the list. Would like to say thanks to Les (aka Bumblebee) & Lisa for organising our accomadation at the Novatel. Also thankyou to all involved in making this weekend one to be remembered.
Was a bit hesitant about going to Summernats, you always hear bad comments about this weekend, but quite the opposite, it's full on cars cars & more cars & only one lot of "show us your ****, which I think someone got photo's of.
Can't wait till Summernats 2011:agree:
Cheers Maureen & Mal

Likewise we had a great time.
Very different from past years, still a great time.
Thanks to all for keeping the young fella occupied at various times, teaching him some bad habbits my Dad would be doing it if He was still with us so its great to see when He's getting roughened up by the older blokes.:shades:
Beleive Jason with his 57 got second in the rare spares judging in street driven,Sorry Jason on the vagueness,Id had a few drinks when you did tell me what you got.:drink:
Thanks Les for organising dinner with the A.C.T MOCA guys and the tip on the hotel, and all for a great time.
See you all next year.
-
You're most welcome everyone, it was a pleasure. The 3 days couldn't have been better, lots of fun and some really great cars and displays at the nats. We've never been before, but I think our formula of attendance with the balance of entertainment, accommodation/security and food worked really well, so we're a definite for next year! Thanks to all for making it work so well and really enjoying yourselves.
-
Also same, thanx for the tip on the accommodation Les and arranging dinner with MOCA ACT, spot on. :drink:
Was great to meet up with everyone and to see we all got home safely. :fantastic:
Thanx Luke, the old 57 seemed to scrub up ok and was a finalist for the Rare Spares 'Real Street' award which went to a very nice Silver XW ute and also made it into the Top 60 for Summernats Street Judging and came 2nd to the Orange and White FC wagon with a supercharged 6. Also a very, very nice wagon.
So don't think the old girl did to bad for a car that is driven every day for work and not garaged. (Should finally have a garage this year though). :shades:
All revved up for next year and hopefully after the never ending storey will take the Blown Rat instead :rub::rub::rub:
