It will be a street car....But will make a few journeys down to WSID...as it's only 20 mins away.
It will be a Ponti engine residing in the engine bay.
Here is a trial fitting of my 455 that is in the '60 normally...just to get the cross member made up.
And some of the rust repairs that got done.

Coming along very nice Greg,
Those UPC brakes are brilliant. I have fitted several sets to 57-69 Chevs and they do perform as long as you set up the rest of the system to suit.
Bit of a let down using a Pontiac engine though... :zip:
Congrat's greg hats off to you, i don't know where you find the time with your work load , but we will make sure you don't slacken off on your project by pestering the hell out of ya. :drink:

Yeah the brakes look really good....better than I actually expected. Just hope they work as good as they look.
Bought a new master cylinder combo recently...I will post up some pics tomorrow.
Oh....And a Ponti engine was the only choice for this car.
I'm a believer in having the same make of engine as the make of car.

LOL....the work load it quite a burden some times....that's why you guys never see me on the runs....always working.
I'm going to try and make Harrys soon though.
No slackening off on the projects though....as soon as this is done I want the GTO to begin its tranformation.
Here is part of the fuel system that I have bought.

I'm putting EFI on the Ponti engine.
This is to show the height difference between a carb and the EFI Throttle body.

I've always thought it was kind of strange that it's perfectly fine to put a brand X engine in anything, but if you turned up with a Buick nailhead in a Chevelle, it would be the end of life as we know it.
I know the aftermarket support for Chevrolet engines is gigantic and relatively cheap, but at the 'stocker' level, they're no better (or worse) than anything Buick, Oldsmobile or Pontiac turned out.
The good thing about the throttle body is that you can get longer runners on your manifold!
Quote from: 69DirtyRat link=topic=2859.msg16425#msg16425The good thing about the throttle body is that you can get longer runners on your manifold!
It will be a new style manifold to go with the canted Valve heads.
Just looking forward to getting it all in the car.
Bought the guages.

Putting all new suspension bushes and what not in the front end.
Cleaning off decades of grease, dirt oil etc was not a fun job.
I don't think it was ever done before!!!
repainting all the chassis compents in rust kill.
They are coming up nicely.
Just waiting on one more delivery...then I can get it back on its wheels...with the new brakes bolted on.

Do not mean to criticise your work because you are doing fine.
But....how come you did not replace those old coil springs with nice strong fresh ones?
They're only 53 years old, if you replaced them now, you'd void the warranty.

Cause I am waiting till I get the engine, trans and everything that is meant to be in there...then see where it sits and then work out how much I want/can drop it down.
It will get new shocks at the same time.
When I bought the car, it was in pieces....so I never saw the true ride height that it has.
Quote from: bonnevista link=topic=2859.msg16979#msg16979They're only 53 years old, if you replaced them now, you'd void the warranty.
LOl..... I only though to my self the other day.... Geez, the 60 is 50 years old now!
It's got a few years and miles under it's belt!!
Decided since I had cleaned up and painted the control arms that I would continue and do the whole chassis.
There was only 12 bolts that I had to undo to pull the body from the chassis.
So I got stuck into it this afternoon and got them separated.
I will give the chassis a good cleaning, getting rid of 53 years worth of crud and give it a paint with Kill rust.
Just a bit of a tidy up, now is the best time to do it while the car has nothing bolted to it. Otherwise I would never have done it.

The build was started about a year ago and spent 6 months at the panel shop getting the body work done.
I get a lot of help from friends.
It has to go away again soon to get some welding work done on it. Pedal box made up, hand brake mods etc
I am only working a half day today, so I would like to get the chassis cleaned up, and on Sunday I will paint it.
Not looking forward to getting covered in crap again by lying underneath the car scrapping crud.
Things are taking a little bit longer than first expected cleaning the chassis. Work keeps getting in the way of my hobby!!
This was when I first pushed it out of the garage.
Hopefully I can spend some more time on it tomorrow to finish it off.
I am almost done on it.

The body went back on the chassis today.
I'm happy that I cleaned the chassis, but it was a pain, with plenty of blood spilled. It will be easy to keep it clean.
I put the engine and gearbox in today aswell.
400 Pontiac T400 box.
Just standard at the moment.
But will get Aluminium heads later on.
Needs to go away now to get the pedal box setup welded in, aswell as some other welding jobs done.
I'm loving watching this project!! :fantastic:
Keep the photo's coming mate and keep up the good work!
Coming along nicely greg , how about a photo of that freshly painted chassis
cheers chris
I didn't actually take a pic of the chassis when it was done.
It was a bit of a rush.
Painted and then next morning it was back under the body.
Have rebooked the car in for the 15th to get the welding work done. I will get the brake lines run while the car is there. And a few other things to make the car a little more user friendly.
Spent this morning working out jigsaw puzzles.... plenty of chrome work on the front end. Working out which nuts and bolts go where, and what bolts to what.
It's not much fun when you buy the car in pieces.
But its slowly working itself out.
Bought a Hi- Torque starter from Castle Auto Enterprises in VIC.
2.5 HP.
Nice looking unit that can be clocked to whatever position that you require.

Began to polish the mountain of jewellery on the '57.
Going pretty well.
Too cold downstairs in the garage....so I have snuck a few bits up into the lounge room on a blanket. :omg:
Hard to see in the pic though. But it's coming along nicely.
This is half of the hood bar done.(the right half)

Not much has been happening lately.
The car is at a workshop getting a few things fabricated and Modified.
Shane has enlarged the radiator support to accept the same radiator as I have in the '60. He has done it so it all looks factory which is great. Doesn't looked hacked at.
I ordered a new radiator today so should have it up here next week. Got it from Aussie Desert Coolers again.
It's being mounted infront of the radiator support this time to allow more room for the engine and power steer(That will be a novelty!!!).
Hopefully the new bumper brackets will be made this week and the bumper will be on the car when I go there next week.
You have no idea how heavy the bumpers are on these big old girls.
Still been buying bits and pieces as I come across money.
It's a slow , slow process......
Slow and steady whens the race. Keep us posted.

I'm hoping to have some worthwhile pics next week.
Yes...Got the GTO as well.... But been off the road since 79...
It's in the process of making a return. I'm a 78 model myself.
It's on CF.org at moment.
As soon as the 57 is done...the GTO will be on full time.
Took the rear bumper down today to get rechromed.
It's a 3 piece bumper...and this was the best of the bits I had.
57 Ponti bits are getting hard to get.
They reckon about 2-3 weeks for the bumper.
One of the cap things will need some repair work where it has rusted through. I can't find new ones anywhere.
So hopefully they will be able to repair it. Although he reckons it will be costly. But it seems that I don't have a choice.
Still have the front bar to do when I get it back after getting new brackets made up for it.
And a few other bits and pieces.

Hey Gas. Can't source one overseas?. There are a few Pontiac Forums in the States. You might find one there and maybe Mick and Yvette from U.S Muscle Cars could bring it in for you in one of their containers. I'm sure it would be cheaper than a courier.
Just a thought.
I've tried OS aswell.
Nothing that I can find.
One was in alright nick....the other will need repairs. But when you are into old odd ball cars...you get used to making do with what you got...and getting those bits fixed up.
But I love having something a little bit odd ball.
Wouldn't change it.
At least I know that the GTO will be an easier road to travel.
Mick and Yvette have delivered some pressies from the states already from me...and more in the future.
While the Dollar is good...just ordered some 3.42 diff gears and a rebuild kit for the diff.
And some lenses for the rear end...back up lights, number plate etc... as well as some front guard ornaments...
Dropped of A/C condensor to get brackets made up for fitment.
Slowly but surely getting there.
Good on you Greg, it is surely a slow process, you think it will be ready for the Pontiac Nationals??:fingers:
The 57 won't make the Pontiac Nats.
I will be taking the '60.
Are you going?

US$300 a pair

Also got other lenses for bumper bars and gaskets.
Still haven't got my rear bumper back yet.
I will call them during the week to see what is going on with it.
Just keep plugging away.
Fun, isn't it? All those piles of parts waiting to get fitted.
It will be good when the car goes together...cause then I will
get some of my garage back.
Too many projects in one garage!!!
Had a call just before xmas.....my chrome work was finally ready!!!
But I was too busy with work to pick it up...so I will get down there in the next couple of weeks when they reopen to pick it up.
Bumpers were ready on time.....it was the bumper caps that were being repaired that took the longest.
Looking forward to seeing how they turned out.

Looking Good  I still reckon it would look better with 2 Turbos :bow:
I reckon donate Gus to a riceburner where he belongs and fit an 8-71 on top....Let it all hang out.
With that bonnet line it will probably fit under though.:shades:
Looking good! :hangloose:

One Snail is enough!
I'm sure that it will be more than enough to keep me busy.

LOL...No 8-71 on this car.
I want everything under the bonnet. No attracting unwanted attention.
Shane says that there is about half an inch to one inch to spare.
Yeah. a nice big hairdryer will do the trick. Will keep it inconspicous and will have instant power upon need... That's one mean Chev...
Woah Bessie,
There's nothing Chev here!
All Pontiac.

A sticker like that would be good.
Gets boring people asking what year Chev it is. LOL
