Title: G'day good people!
Post by: Russ on May 27, 2010, 09:36:19 PM
Signed up after someone posted the link on another forum. Same forum that recent recruits cluxford & AUSCAMARO hail from.

My name is Russ (obviously!). I live on the NSW Central Coast ... and I'm a bit of a Mopar fan!

Just bought myself a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, but it's still in the US, so I'm just waiting for the finer details to be sorted before it can be chucked on a ship.

A bit about the car:

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
383 Magnum
A727 Torqueflite

All #'s matching

Originally Red with white stripes, but repainted about 10 years ago in Cortez Silver from a '69 Chevelle.

Anyways, I'm boring and pics are more enjoyable, so here's a few of the many that I'll be spending the next 2 months drooling over until I get to see it in the flesh.

Cheers! :drink:

Haha, trust me, if I could afford it I would own nothing but Hemi's :shades:

Appreciate the offer. Looking over the forum I noticed you operate SMS Performance in Padstow. I have 1 mod I would like done and have been trying to find someone that is familiar with Challengers to do it.

Do you actually offer full mechanical services? or is it strictly an engine tuning/performance business?

Reason I ask is I'd eventually like to get the Hurst-Driveline Tremec 500 TKO 5 Speed conversion Kit (http://www.hurst-drivelines.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=137&Itemid=123) to convert from auto to manual.

Do you do that sort of work?

It won't be soon. The car is 2 months away, and I've never driven LHD before so the auto is fine until I'm comfortable in it. But I actually hate driving auto's, and the 4 speed Chally's are harder to come by and more expensive, so I had to get what I could, while I could.

I am your man Russ!
My Challenger is 426 Hemi with Tremec TKO 600 five speed and hydraulic clutch conversion. I have built it all myself.
I do all mechanical work including all conversions. American cars are my specialities. Give me a call or drop by when you are free.
Cheers, Chris.

Awesome!

Once I have the Challenger, and on the road, I'll organise a time to stop by and shoot the proverbial sh#t.

Thanks mate.

Welcome Russ. Looking forward to seeing the car when it arrives. Do yourself a favour and buy a passenger side mirror while it's on it's way here so you can fit it on arrival. LHD is fun and you'll get used to it in a weekend, put pulling out from the kerb is dicey without that offside mirror. Also practice reversing...it's the only way to get through a McDonalds Drive-though without swapping seats.:exact:

I had actually planned on getting a passenger mirror, but it actually comes with a set of 2 repro mirrors and a bunch of other spares, so all is good!

... bit of an update.

After 3 months, the Chally was finally picked up from the sellers last week. Hopefully it won't take as long to get it put in a container and on a ship!

Pics of course :shades:

To be perfectly honest, I'm not expecting it by Christmas.

It took the company over 3 months to pick the car up, from when I transferred them the money - and even then it only came about as the seller started threatening to charge them a storage fee etc.

So, whilst it should be here soon, I won't be surprised if it's not!

Yeah, I know about them ... now, haha. The current mob is handling everything for me, and have so far been paid for everything up until this point.

I have the import approval, and the car should be getting prepped for shipping. I do know they have about another 10 cars to ship (all the VIN #'s were on the same approval as mine), so it's not like I have to wait until they get others to fill the container - there is no reason why it shouldn't be on a ship lickety-split, but at this point, nothing will surprise me.

Taking it out of their hands and going with someone new is added logistics & drama I just don't want to go through.

OK ... quick update. Chally has apparently set sail, and has a scheduled arrival date of Nov 22 - I'm fairly sure that's 2010.

Hope it's smooth sailing. If you want to track it then put the ships name into the following site and watch it's progress. Even tells you boat speed, distance covered, swell size (scary) wind direction. Watch out for cyclones:coffee:

Already on it - unfortunately, the company in question is a little lax in the info department, still waiting to hear back with a ship name to track.

Woooohooooo!!!

OK, this is about the 374th site I've posted this on in 24 hours, but I don't care!

:shades:

Chally is here, and in my possession.

Unfortunately, that's as far as it got. Battery was dead on arrival, and after replacing there was still no spark from the coil - so who knows. :banghead:

Fingers-crossed it can be on the road before they go on their Christmas break.

Either way - though it took 7 months to get here, and it won't start - I couldn't care less and have never been happier!

Haha yeah I know, but the mechanic was running out of time (dentist appointment at 5) and hadn't finished the paper work - the sparky had only finished the headlights 10 minutes prior - and he's not open Saturdays. I told him it was cool. I'll be down there on Monday, so finish it off then and I'll pick it up in the arvo after my works annual Golf day

I'd have loved to have had it on the road for the weekend, but he's been a fantastic mechanic over the years that has done right by us (family/work) more than a few times - and more than many would have even cared to - I wasn't about to forget that!

I waited 7 months for complete strangers to deliver it - I can sure as hell give a mate a couple of days.
