Hi Team
It's on again, American Car Nationals just on the edge of Canberra. Some of us went last year and had a ball, this year will be even better. We're copying the successful Summernats format of accommodation at the Novotel (secure undercover parking) and dinner at Ginseng in Manuka. Well be driving down at 8:30 am on Saturday the 25th of September ready for a top lunch (some will arrive early afternoon too). Saturday is also All Ford Day, and there is a super swap meet both days. I'd recommend entering early to avoid the very long queue for those trying to enter on the day. Here's the link:
http://www.americancarnationals.com.au/entry-form---2010-american-car-nationals.html
Although we haven't asked around yet, the following are already in the attendee list:

Have fun!

Received a letter in the mail today from American Car Club of Australia Inc below:
As you are all aware the American Car Club of Australia Inc (ACCA) successfully hosted the 'American Car Nationals' annually in September, at the Queanbeyan Showgrounds from 2001 to 2009.
The event was hosted by the ACCA through License Agreement to use the name 'American Car Nationals' with the organiser of the Queanbeyan Swap.
Regrettably, the agreement for the ACCA to use the name ' American Car Nationals' was terminated with effect from 7th December 2009, and the 2010 and future events will be staged as private ventures under the auspices of the Queanbeyan Swap.
Accordingly, the American Car Club of Australia Inc. wishes to thank all our supporters, including our major sponsor, Shannons Insurance, trophy sponsors, local businesses, entrants,Queanbeyan Council and volunteers, especially the Corvette and Mustang clubs, all of whom made major contribution to the huge success of the event.
As a result of the foregoing change the American Car Club of Australia Inc will not host a car show in 2010, but will host a new American Car Show, to be known as 'Shannons American Car Classics', on Sunday the 3rd April 2011 and the first Sunday in May in future years. The event will be staged as previously, at a comprehensively upgraded Queanbeyan Showground.
The months of April/May was chosen specifically to take advantage of the more stable and generally delightful weather conditions experienced in the Canberra / Queanbeyan district during Autumn.
As planning progresses, progressive updates will be posted on the ACCA website www.americancarclub.net
-
Hi Guys I just got of the :call: from Chris Smith the President from the American car club ACT there is still a car show on but it is being held by the guy that owns the name this is a privately run car show & he is having trouble getting sponsors. Chris said they will be having there show next year in April then it will move to May 2012. We are going to get a joint run happening with the two clubs soon.
:seeya: Garry :hangloose:
-
Looks like the ACCA is no longer involved, but the event will continue to be run as always by the original organisers.
Here is the latest:
Hi Les,Thanks for your email, the American Car Club is no longer running the event but nothing will change from the show it has always been. In fact myself and the other people who are now running the American Car Nationals are the original organisers and we aim to keep the event a fairly priced event for enthusiasts like ourselves. The swap meet and the Ford Show on Saturday will also stay the same. Please let everyone else you might know that the event is on and is being run as it always has.Kind RegardsChris JacksonAmerican Car Nationals
-
Just so we make sure this is worth going to, I've cast the net to get fair dinkum feedback from locals (not related to either party) as to whether this is going to be a good event given the changes, even though the organiser says it will be. I'll post any updates once received.
-
Theres a dozen people who will have a ball regardless.:thanks:
-
I agree with Luke....and these are basically drive to event, park your car and look around swap meet.....not much too it....and I can't make the run in April 2011 anyway coz I'll still be in NZ from Beach Hop.
-
OK, well that's settled we're going!!!:fantastic:
In the meantime, for those interested, I'll still supply feedback.:coffee:
-
Chinese a couple of beers / bourbons good company what car show ???????????? :fantastic:
Cheers Mal
-
Yep we agree , car show or no car show will be a great weekend ,HMMMMMMMMMMM moist chinese.
-
I wanna just go for a weekend drive.
-
I wanna just go for a weekend drive.
How does via Braidwood sound..:rub:
-
I have just been told by a guy that goes every year that it is $5 entry but the first 100 cars will get in for free to get the #'s there so guys get in early.
:seeya: Garry :hangloose:
-
hi guys,
The format of this event has not changed, still will be the same car show as usual, maybe the numbers will be down, but still a good event and fun with friends:drink:
-
I have just been told by a guy that goes every year that it is $5 entry but the first 100 cars will get in for free to get the #'s there so guys get in early.
:seeya: Garry :hangloose:
Great, thanks for the update Garry!:thanks:
-
Good news guys and gals,
Spoke to many of the people we meet up with in Canberra as well as the lead MOCA guys (including the Canberra Chapter lead) and they are all going so this will be a good event :fantastic: .No doubt the lack of American Car Club guys will be disappointing.
-
Like stated before we seem to make our own fun anyway.....looking forward to it and my son is definately coming too.
-
Good stuff Les maybe we can meet up with moe and others for a coffee ? Seeing entry is $5 it's a bargain had to order shirts to make it worthwhile writting the cheque.
-
Just to confirm that not only has the ACT chapter of MOCA endorsed this event but it is now listed in their Calendar as an official run which means Historic/club plates can go, so I now suspect this will draw a good crowd from Mustang quarters. The locals are pretty well connected so the other clubs are likely to follow suit.
-
Fi, Tayla and I should be right to come down in the early hours on Sun morning for the day.
Greg
-
Fantastic news Greg,
You'll have a top day, was just with the Mustang people from Canberra and the Sydney events organisers yesterday and it will be fully attended by a lot of clubs.
-
Just to confirm that not only has the ACT chapter of MOCA endorsed this event but it is now listed in their Calendar as an official run which means Historic/club plates can go.
Not from AMCCA has to be OUR official club event for historic/club plate to attend if registered through the club...just thought better make it clear...cheers Robyn :)
Think of me with Shan and the "vampire" types on the Saturday at her "True Blood Convention" :)
-
Hi Guys,
Always a good show this one. Usually well attended by lots of US muscle. Pretty much a full weekend of cruisin' and cars. Has had some terrific attendances even in bad weather of recent years. Anyone wanting a weather update on the Saturday/Sunday morning can let me know. Bee, happy to SMS your mobile if that suits.
Thanks
Dicko.
-
So that our members that want to take there club rego cars to this event I will get it put onto our club events page. Please don't forget to inform Mick by SMS that you are taking your car or you have no rego or insurance if something happens.
:seeya: Garry :hangloose:

A good line-up of cars today in Queanbeyan (and yesterday with the Fords !!). I followed a powder blue Thunderbird on the way back to Sydney late this afternoon which made what is always usually a boring trip much more enjoyable. It was their biggest ever Queanbeyan Swap meet.. starting Saturday and carrying over to Sunday.. and the combo of the Ford Day & American Nationals swelled the grounds .. also.. the bigger sponsors with their trailers.. the Shannons trailer...the sound stage set up .. the Health Checks for men run by the Greater Southern Area Health Service was a REALLY spot on thing to bring in .. its done in the U.S.A' a lot.. where they have the same problems domestically of blokes not taking health seriously .. often with crook outcomes..but they do in the US often do bowel tests.. not something you wake up for on a sunday looking forwards too.... but the ACT event was all staffed by 18 student doctors... all for no cost to the "patient".......
Entry cost of $3.. ensured families did not get guttered and encouraged car guys to roll up rather then high priced entry etc.
For a regional event.. your gotta give them 10 out of 10 this year.
-
I'm delighted to hear it! The organiser did say there were going to be lots of improvements oriented around satisfying and growing the crowds, looks like he hit the mark. I'll definitely be going next year!:fingers:
-
I didn't realise that there was a check up tent there.
I would have went in.
I probably walked straight past it.
It was a great show and being out of Sydney....there was a lot of cars that I hadn't seen before. It was refreshing.
And yes...$3 entry was great aswell. Saw plenty of families there.
Swap meet was good.
Got a couple of '67 GTO models. I always said I don't want to start collecting model cars...because I have seen it turn into an obsession....but I think only buying cars I have will be alright. we will see.
Fi bought a 1960's picnic set in it's own case.
She missed out on picking up the gestetner. I don't know how much is was but at least she knows the name of it now... Thanks Hev!
-
Greg the check up tent was only about 40 foot long, white in colour and you had to veer left as we drove into the showground to avoid it,then the people doing the testing had bright orange overalls on :banghead::banghead::banghead:
And you hold a truck licence you dill.:thanks:
-
I would firstly like to thank Dave and Ellen for the use of their trailer :fantastic: They had no hesitation to take the cuda off and hand over the keys for the bus, trailer and covvette.
Also everyone that helped push it up the hill and ramps, and Matt and Leanne for picking up a new set of points (this wouldn't have happened if i was using a procomp dissy).
Apart from this small drama we had a great weekend again :agree:
Les we still need your co card they will be in touch. lol
Thanks for organising this again :exact:
Cheers Mal

LOL... I thought that was the tent Dave was talking about it.
I even checked out one of the girls as I walked by yesterday...but didn't know what it was at that time.
You don't need to be too observant to have a truck license!:kick:
-
Top weekend away.....think they need to have it away from Floriade time....in the evening there were people lined up for 100's of metres to check out plants and accommodation prices rise. I think what they arrange is fantastic with trade stands and stuff to look at ....music etc....need to get there earlier on Saturday next year to get around swap meet....thanks guys for making it a great weekend and Blake really enjoyed the company too...
