Title: Power Steering
Post by: GAS455 on October 12, 2010, 08:35:15 PM
WOW......  I  just got power steer fitted to the '60 Ponti.....What a difference it makes....  I feel like I am driving a little Barina or something it's so easy to turn.

Can't wait till the next skid pan day!!!

Was a HQ power steer box.

Now just need to change the control arm bushes and ball joints and shocks....and it should be a new car to drive!

I can tell you it will be easy to park it now!
May have a little overhang out of the small car spots.

Power Steer is as luxurious as the '60 Ponti will get.
Hey...it still has house carpet in the front!

Next year....it may get a makeover if work is good.
It needs it badly!

$650

He had to make up the brackets, shorten steering shaft etc.
I supplied the box and pump.

I wish I had of done it 10 years ago!!!

I was more than happy with the cost.
Shane does great work.
He is doing all the Fabrication work on the 57 for me.

I know it won't break!!

I bought the box and pump about 7 years ago....and only just cracked the $hit$ in a car park in Penrith a week or so when it took a 500 Point turn to get out of the Coffee Club carpark.    My arms were rooted!!!
It got booked in 2 days later.

I bought some suspension stuff from Ponti world today...so it goes back in 2 weeks to get new ball joints, control arm bushes and Tie rod ends fitted.

And the sway bar needs new mounts made up to clear the steering arm as it sits lower than the original stuff.

Its alot of fun to drive now.

Dropped the '60 off yesterday to get the control arm bushes changed. They were completly shagged....I got new ones from Ponti world a while ago.

It's getting control arm bushes, ball joints and tie rods ends done.  New front shocks and replacing the fuel tank for another original one that I got off Bonnevista(thanks Chris) so hopefully I will have a working fuel gauge and also some more fuel capacity then my tank which had a big bash on the bottom. It's been 12 years since I have had a fuel guage on that car...so fingers crossed it all works out!

Yes...I know I could do the tank myself...But...I'm not! :shades:
