Title: Dyno Day & Drag day
Post by: MuscleVette on August 05, 2007, 09:26:14 PM
One of our major sponsors S R Performance has invited our club to hold a Dyno Day at his work shop I was speaking to him today & I told him this month is out because, we have so much on so what about an early date in September before it gets to hot.
Also Greg with the Pontaic would like to have a day at WSID I think our club would enjoy that you don't have to break the track record but just go out & have some fun we would need about 20 cars to make a day of it so lets have the Dyno day first & then get the heads up on what our cars can do before the track day ;I
 See Ya Garry.;);F

More than likely. If Steve can get a few more horsys out of her whilst she is still on the dyno he will. Let me also add for those going to participate or planning to watch the money paid is well worth the hungarian sausages that Steve cooks up on the bbq.

dave thats the day we would like to have it ,if we wait till later in the year its to hot, but as you can see from the responce no one apart from yourself is keen, it doesn't have to be a chev vs ford thing but if we don't get enough responce from this club maybe you can ask some people from the mustang forum if they would like to join in.
if we get 10 cars im sure steve will still go ahead with the day

david don't worry steve doesn't just mash the pedal he'l do a couple of light runs to make sure your afr's are okay (air/fuel ratios)and that the motor sounds okay before he gives it some ,dont worry about what it makes mine made about 175-180hp@the wheels when it was stock ,its all about getting together having some petrol fuming fun and we can't get booked seeing what top speed the cars can do.

Well that depends on who's got what done to there engine.
In stock form with original transmitions, my money would be on the Clevo for the most HP (at the wheels), and the FE for the most torque.

Thats my calculated guess, maybe there should be a sweep on the day, a bit like the melbourne cup but with real horsepower.
David.

289 (40 thou over), 10.1 comp, alloy windsor snr's, solid cam (2300-6000rpm powerband) 650dp, rpm air gap.

Lets have two catergories...........Most HP or KW'S and the highest Torque figure (however that is measured)

:D

:D

you can't really measure torque on a dyno as gearing can make a huge difference ,power figure will be the same eg same car same power first run with say 3.25 diff then same car with 3.7 gears the power figure will be the same but the torque figure with the 3.7 will be higher, remember the dyno reads from the wheels not the engine.
cheers chris.

What they cant measure torque? well there goes my chance.

Not 100 % sure but think she is standard other than inlet manifold, and a lumpy sound and rough idle, i put that down to the lazy cylinder on the left bank.
You can pick it at idle but once you get above 1000 rpm she is smooth( like all fords) that should stir up the GM folk;J

Looking at a Offy manifold with dual carters on ebay, high rise don't know if i want to go the whole hog on this car, i have a passion for getting a Galaxie and going to town on it.

David.

So my torque should show reasonably big as I have 4.1 diff. :D

yes they do but it doesn't reflect a true reading unless you have the cars running the same diff ratios, if your going to compare

Windsor's are not better than Clevo's or vice versa.

Its just that I have a windsor :4

My personal view is that clevo's are better than windsor's (due to there power handling capabilites.):D

he said shouldn't be a problem hopefully the linkage setups arn't to different , you won't beleive what we discovered today ,i bought my engine of a guy from the cobra car club it was in his cobra and we drove it before we bought it we also new that the bakers did the machining but we didn't know much about the builder the car went hard and sounded good, today we couln't adjust one of the rockers it turned out they put one hydraulic lifter in by mistake ,i have a solid cam ,also the bearings in the rockers are stuffed lucky i decided to adjust them today and not friday ,any way will be finished tomorrow afternoon.

I am running a cable set up, so it will not be a problem for me, We can go with the flow on the day.

Who are bakers?

What heads are you running?

Very lucky you got in early to get it ready.

bakers is the name of the family it was a brother parnershp i think now they have gone there seperate ways they are highly regarded as the best engine balancers they also do aviation work the heads are the standard iron heads but ported by rams heads at windsor flow charts say 220cfm at 500 lift which is around 450hp

Chris

I will answer your question here as I cannot log into the mustang site.

Bob Meally (Peakhurst) built my engine. No I have not had it on the dyno.

It goes hard for a 289 but my old 347 with webers was awsome.........................I just have to wipe away the tears.

Sorry if this another silly question, but would a bigger carb on a small block make much of a difference if any?
Just thought you but big carbs on big blocks or high performance engines?

Yes I was there..............I am pretty happy with the outcome

322.6 rwhp @ 5500 rpms............got to be happy with that!

I am starting to think if I was to install a victor jnr manifold, 750dp a bit more comp and a cam to make power to 7000rpms I could make a few more rwhp.:4

hi dave peak power was at 5900rpm the day before it made 280hp but with the air cleaner off and the afr's were 13.4 still abit lean for my likeing but it was getting late and in our haste to get home we forgot to power it up with the air cleaner on ,well we left the air cleaner on on sat and went to 285hp but the afr's were a perfect 12.7 so the air cleaner richened up the fuel and hence the extra horspower, so if anyone thinks a air cleaner robs power well if done right not the case at all
cheers chris.

dave your kidding leave it as it is your afr's were on the rich side anyway i think a 750 would drown it we have never seen a 289 make that much power naturally asperated ,you know the saying when your on a good thing.
cheers chris.

Chris, at what rpms was your peak torque (tractive LB)?

You can hear the power increase until the rev limiter cuts in, but you can tell theres a lot more power hiding in there.
Just a simple chip change isn't it ?
David.

i just got the txt sheet max torque was at 4000rpm 1263lb (roller torque)but what amazed me was steve stomped on it at 110kph 3793rpm it had 206hp by 124kph 4276rpm it had 254hp a gain of almost 50hp with only a extra 500rpm thats why autos with high stall converters just hammer off the line at the drags
