Live in Figtree. Good to know there is someone close to home. I'm still negotiating price including shipping from the seller, ill see what he comes back with then go from there. I'm estimating about 6k to ship it + all the b#llsh%t. This is the car I'm looking at

Hi Stuart and welcome to the forum.

We would be happy to assist you with any shipping requirement you have, from trucking to La to shipping into Sydney. Please before you proceed with your purchase ensure that you have read the rules regarding importing a car into Australia as they have tightened and any mods must be listed along with photos of the vehicle to support your application. If you want to discuss it further please give me a call 0417 486 473. Dotars website is www.dotars.gov.au Approvals have been taking around 6-7 weeks to receive at present.

Cheers Yvette

G'day Stuart and welcome to the forum. My business partner lives in Texas, so provided this car is not to far away from where she lives I can arrange for her husband to head out and take a look at this car for you. I can even get them to complete the deal for you also if you need them to and it makes you feel more comfortable.

Let me know if I can be of any help at all.

Cheers
Steve

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the advice guys.
I might take up the offer of having the car looked at by your friend. Ill be happy to pay him for his trouble.
As far as import approval I haven't got that far yet but should look into it. Im still looking around but i love this one, just have to get the nod from the minister of finance & entertainment.
Thanks again, much appreciated.

Hi Stuart, You can't apply for import approval until you have VIN#, a few pictures and bill of sale and have heard currently its around 4-6 week processing.

ok, so looks like ill have to make up my mind first.
thinking about flying over to see the mecum kissamee auction, and from there going to see a few private sale cars later this month.

There is usually a fee that applies at these auctions just to attend so check that out (Mick can probably advise on that). Go to www.craigslist.com and check out whats around but be careful. Take the opportunity to have someone trustworthy check it out if cannot be there. Look around California say over to Texas otherwise transport costs can be significant.

G'day Stuart,
Nice choice of muscle car :fantastic:
So....You are saying that car is ready to leave LA but you have not got import approval yet?
Be warned that if it arrives here before you have approval customs will simply ship it back to LA at your expense or it will be stored in the open for $350 a day until you received your approval.
Think about it!

Cheers, Chris.

The receipt number they may be talking about is from US customs. They don't care if you have Australian permission but need to have approval from US that the car can leave the country......hope all goes smooth.

Very nice....if you want to play it safe you may want to fit a set of standard wheels to avoid harrasment for being modified. put the mags in the boot or in the cabin.

P.S. What's all that white stuff all over the ground and on the tyres?  :bolt:

yeh snow lol, i know, but apparently its everywhere atm. cars only done 200mile since resto so should be ok.:fingers:
im hoping as the wheels arent to outrageous theyl let them go, i dont plan on keeping them on anyway, but as you said if its less hassle to pull them off before shipping then ill do that. Ill ask the freight guys next time i speak to them.
Title: hello, first post, new member. Pics of car now posted

Hi Stuart, your wheels are fine to leave on they will not be a problem, when you send in your application just write on one of the pics that the vehicle has mags fitted.

Original title is required to stay with car which is why I am guessing you have copy only. You should not need a copy of the title for Canberra, only the bill of sale.

thats good news. i guess there might have been a slow start to the new year. hopefully its around four weeks now. How long does it generally take for a car to get here?
I have also contacted the seller of my car and he has posted me a bill of sale incase i need it.
spoke to an aquaintance on sunday who said when he got his approval he just included the ebay documents and bank transfers with his approval paperwork, as he didnt have a reciept either.
i guess ill know soon enough.

Usually around 3-4 weeks on the water and leave a few days to unload and prepare for pick up. I can see no reason why they wouldn't accept Ebay invoice but any bill of sale or invoice should have been submitted with application. As you would know from the paperwork you submit its not really detailed as you would expect and the approvals seem more of a formality. I am sure if they had resources they could be processed within a week. Good luck with it all as its just a waiting game now.....cheers

picked up car on monday, very happy, car has had body off resto, everything has been replaced or renewed. paint/body is 8.5 out of 10. new brakes, lines, hoses, bushes, shocks, the lot. also looks to have had a full trim kit, rubbers etc.
on the negative side, just because its all new doesnt mean it has been fitted correctly. Have had to remove the front headlight assy, and grill, replace headlights, repair ugly holes hacked for the headlight door actuators, remove & re-seal tailights, replace flexplate, locktight everything (converter bolts loose) bellhousing bolts short, adjust wheel beaings, fit washer bottle, washer nozzles,
going to tidy up wiring tomorrow ang hopefully fire it fot the first time. also painted the underbody while the box and exhaust was out. sealed and painted the boot as well. busy 3 days.
going for blue slip friday, then will change the exhaust and tidy up some small trim issues. but have been enjoying it.

looks like im going to get the chance to put a new motor in sooner rather than later ........engine developed a knock on saturday while on camp quality cruise. pulled it out and stripped it to find it has spun a big end and damaged the crank.
have organised a replacement block as the 396 is harder to get parts for and going to up the cubes. all im salvaging from old engine is the intake manifold. bit of hard luck but i guess this happens when you buy car this way.

hey Jethro, the old girl didnt stop, we just decided to call it a day before it did real damage. im going to sell it as it will be salvageable with some +20 big end bearings.

dropped the new block at the machine shop today after my liitle shopping spree lol. hopefully get it back so we can dummy it up and see how all the clearances look before the final machining is done. then assemble it and put it on the engine dyno before fitting it in the car. have everything but the camshaft and lifters, looking like we will go a hydraulic roller. have 498 scat stroker crank, 10.7:1 forged srp pistons, 100cc chamber alluminium edelbrock heads, scat I beam rods, ARP head bolt and main stud kit, oil pump, fuel pump, 850cfm holley with mech secondries, etc etc. stoked the missus let me go shopping.
