Notice in the top photo that the centre pillar on the far side looks closer to the front of the car than the one on the driver side.  

That's because it is.

To make it easier to get in and out of the rear seat, they made the passenger side door 6 inches shorter than the driver side.

Ugly is right....those things are supposed to have some evil handling properties as well...... :fantastic:
