sounds like a lifter or rocker noise to me,are you getting plenty of oil up the top.

;G

only way to check the oil is to pull the rocker cover off - messy though.

No its not rockers, I checked all that, and when I switch the engine off you can hear it stop with a click,
It does it hot and cold, Oil pressure is heaps, no loss of pressure, Im afraid its a skirt.

what pistons do you have in it? Forged? Hypers?

Well if it isn't a lifter it'll be something expensive to fix. I'd be assuming all the tolerances were spot on (piston rings etc).

I hope it is something easy!

Paul check your extractor bolts they may be loose or you could even be missing 1 or 2

I had a Clevo that made that exact noise after a day at Eastern creek. Everyone said including myself thought it was a lifter but turned out to be a cracked piston skirt on a forged piston.

I think Matt could be bang on if so you will have pressure in the block pull the dip stick and you will know.

Im with you Mat! Cracked skirt!
I will pull it on Saturday and dump the 289 back in it!
Put it on the stand and pull it apart.
